John Minang was a legendary Cameroonian musician from Mankon, widely celebrated as "The King of Bottle Dance." Over a career spanning three decades, he became one of the greatest figures in Cameroonian folkloric music, giving the Njang Bottle Dance genre an international reputation. His music focused on highlighting societal issues and celebrating Mankon culture.
Background
Born in Mankon, Bamenda, John Minang dedicated his life to music and cultural preservation. He produced approximately six albums over 30 years, with iconic tracks like "Fine Fine Woman," "Mbaghalum," "Life is a Battle," and his signature "The Bottle Dance." Unlike many contemporaries, his music carried messages that addressed societal problems rather than themes of immorality.

John Minang brought Mankon culture to the world stage through his unique Njang Bottle Dance performances. His music was a staple at MACUDA events and cultural gatherings, connecting Mankon people in the diaspora with their heritage. He served as Regional President of the Association of Cameroon English Speaking Musicians (ACEM) in the North West Region, advocating for the rights and recognition of Anglophone musicians.
