Ntsualam Borehole Water System
Clean Water is More Than a Mile Away
Potable water is typically more than 1 mile away from Ngulung residents. Without clean water, residents fetch from Raffia bushes - exposing themselves to water-borne diseases like Typhoid.
The community consists of 76 households with 350 persons and an estimated water demand of 10,500 liters per day. The current situation forces women and children to make multiple daily treks, often in dangerous conditions.
The solution is a solar-powered borehole drilled 300 meters below the surface, providing reliable clean water to both Upper and Lower Ngulung through a distributed tap system.
What We're Achieving
- 1
Restore water access to Ntsualam — where the hand pump has been non-functional for 5+ years
- 2
Replace faulty center rod, pipes, and manual pump in the existing hand-dug well
- 3
Construct a complete borehole water system (like Ngulung) with tower and solar pumping
- 4
Install 6 stand taps to serve Ntsualam, Akumalam, and Ala'atah quarters
- 5
Eliminate reliance on unsafe alternative water sources and reduce water-borne disease
- 6
Provide sustainable, solar-powered water supply for long-term community benefit
A Solar-Powered Water System for Ngulung
Rehabilitation & Drilling
Repair existing well infrastructure and drill new borehole; increase depth if necessary; full cleaning and treatment
Water Analysis & Treatment
Comprehensive water quality testing to confirm potable standards after rehabilitation
Water Tower Construction
Construction of water tower with multi-tank storage capacity for reliable distribution across three quarters
Hybrid Solar Pumping
Solar-powered pumping system with hybrid backup for year-round water supply
6 Stand Taps Distribution
Six stand tap points serving Ntsualam, Akumalam, and Ala'atah — modeled after the Ngulung water system
Engineering & Training
Professional supervision, enclosure reconstruction, caretaker training, and Water Management Committee setup
