Professionally, he has served as a journalist, police officer, corporate legal analyst, and registered nurse. He is married to Mangyie Colette and Maeiva-Lucrece and is the proud father of five children: Miya, Adeh, Nji, Ndoh, and Atock. He is also regarded by many within his extended family and community as a father figure and mentor. Background

Although born in Alamatu, Tangyie Elijah's upbringing was shaped by experiences across several communities within and beyond Mankon. During his early childhood, he lived in Ntamulung with his aunt, Mama Julie Nkwenti, and later in Mulang with his grandmother, Nimoh Monica Atuh Akenji, whose folktales, riddles, and wisdom left a lasting impression on him. At the age of seven, he joined his father in Mbonge Maromba in the South West Region of Cameroon, where he spent five formative years. There, he learned valuable life skills including swimming, cocoa farming, and trading while assisting in his father's business. Growing up, Tangyie Elijah embraced the traditional lifestyle common to many Mankon children. He participated in farming, wine tapping, hunting, fishing, brick molding, collecting and selling firewood, and other community activities that instilled in him discipline, resilience, and a deep appreciation for hard work. He also developed a passion for music, dance, and entertainment, becoming a familiar face in many popular dance halls and movie theaters throughout Mankon and Bamenda. These experiences enriched his understanding of community life while strengthening his appreciation for Mankon's social and cultural heritage. This unique combination enabled him to serve as a police journalist at Police Headquarters in Yaoundé, where he contributed to the production of the weekly police television program, At the Service of Each and Everyone. Following his relocation to the United States, he built successful careers as a Corporate Legal Analyst with ECMC and later as a Registered Nurse, serving numerous healthcare organizations. Cultural Heritage Tangyie Elijah has devoted much of his life to understanding, preserving, and promoting the traditions of Mankon. He has witnessed both the richness of the culture and the challenges posed by modernization and foreign influences. While recognizing the changes brought by urbanization, western education, and religion, he remains optimistic about the current cultural renaissance taking place within Mankon. He celebrates ongoing efforts to preserve the Mankon language, promote traditional attire such as Togho, revive raffia cultivation, encourage indigenous naming practices, and strengthen appreciation for Mankon's customs, festivals, governance, and royal heritage.

Community Contributions

Tangyie Elijah Nde Che Munyong-Abieri has devoted decades of dedicated service to the Mankon community through leadership, mentorship, institution building, and cultural preservation. Mankon Students' Association (MASA) Tangyie Elijah served in the Mankon Students' Association (MASA) for approximately ten years, holding several executive positions before serving as National President (1990–1992). His tenure focused on strengthening student leadership and fostering unity among Mankon students. MACUDA America Within the Mankon Cultural and Development Association (MACUDA), Tangyie Elijah has played several pioneering leadership roles. His service includes: • President, MACUDA Minnesota Branch (2006–2008) • Pioneer National President, MACUDA America (2007–2009) His leadership helped establish a strong organizational foundation for MACUDA America while promoting unity among Mankon people throughout the United States. Mankon Notables (Bikum) Tangyie Elijah serves as an adviser to the inaugural executive of the Bikum (Notables of Mankon), where he oversees matters relating to the Mankon diaspora and continues to strengthen connections between Mankon communities worldwide. Mankon United Football Club As Second Vice President of Mankon United FC, Tangyie Elijah has concentrated on fundraising, resource mobilization, and fan engagement. His efforts have contributed significantly to the club's historic success, including winning both the North West Regional League and the Cameroon Cup—the first double championship in the club's six-decade history. Cultural Preservation One of Tangyie Elijah's greatest passions is preserving Mankon's cultural identity. Through his writings, mentorship, leadership, and advocacy, he continues to encourage younger generations to embrace their language, history, traditions, values, and heritage. Honors and Recognition In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the welfare and development of Mankon, Tangyie Elijah was knighted in Minnesota in 2007 by the late Fo Angwafo III and bestowed the title Nkumfo. The honor is symbolized by the traditional black fiber cap adorned with a red feather and represents distinguished service to the Mankon community.
