Three completed water projects, thousands of lives impacted. A deep dive into MACUDA's flagship development initiative and what comes next.

Access to clean water remains one of the most fundamental challenges facing communities in Mankon. Through sustained effort and generous contributions from diaspora members, MACUDA has made remarkable progress in addressing this crisis. Here's a look at the impact of our completed projects and the road ahead.

By the Numbers

Since 2022, MACUDA's water initiative has achieved significant milestones:

  • 3 water projects completed in Ntambeng, Ntsualam, and Ngulung quarters
  • Over 5,000 residents now have reliable access to clean water
  • $120,000+ raised from diaspora contributions
  • 12 community water points constructed and operational
  • 40% reduction in waterborne diseases reported in project areas

The Ngulung Success Story

The Ngulung Water Project, completed in late 2024, stands as a model for community-driven development. MACUDA partnered with local leaders, the Mankon Council, and international development organizations to install a gravity-fed water system serving over 2,000 people.

"Before this project, my children walked two hours each day to fetch water from the stream," says Ma Ngong, a mother of four in Ngulung. "Now, clean water flows just steps from our compound. The children spend that time studying instead."

Challenges and Lessons Learned

The journey hasn't been without challenges. Currency fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and the complexities of coordinating between the diaspora and local implementation teams have all tested the organization's resilience. Key lessons include the importance of local project management, transparent financial reporting, and community ownership of completed infrastructure.

What's Next: The 2025 Water Survey

MACUDA has launched a comprehensive water needs assessment survey to identify the next communities that will benefit from this program. The 2025-2026 target includes two new projects in underserved quarters, with an expanded scope that includes sanitation facilities alongside water infrastructure.
